The hearing of 12 cases of May 9 tragedy will now be held in Adiala Jail notification issued

The district administration of Rawalpindi has issued a notification for the jail trial of 12 cases on May 9. According to voteteer.com.pk, the notification of the jail trial has been issued, according to which the cases against Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will also be heard in jail on May 9. Jail trial notices were also issued to the SHOs and investigating officers of all the police stations, all the accused in the May 9 cases have also been ordered to come to Adiala Jail from February 6.

Earlier on January 25, February 6 was fixed as the date for indictment against Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the May 9 tragedy cases. 12 cases have been registered against the former prime minister and 6 cases against the former foreign minister related to May 9 and both have filed bail applications in connection with these cases.

It should be remembered that after the arrest of Imran Khan from the premises of Islamabad High Court in the Al-Qadir Trust case on May 9 last year, there was a nationwide protest by the PTI, during which Muslims were killed on May 9 in the Model Town area of Lahore. Apart from the burning of the League (N) office, military, civil and private installations were torched, public and private property was severely damaged while at least 8 people were killed and 290 injured.

Protesters also stormed the Corps Commander’s residence in Lahore, also known as Jinnah House, and broke a gate of the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

Subsequently, 1,900 people involved in fighting, vandalism and arson were arrested across the country, while cases were also registered against Imran Khan and his party leaders and workers.
