NA First Session Likely On Feb 29:  The first meeting of the National Assembly following the general elections is scheduled for February 29. In order to elect the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Leader of the House, the National Assembly must meet within 21 days after the day of the general election, according to the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

During the first session of the assembly, the newly elected members will take the oath. The newly elected members of the National Assembly will take the oath of office from Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf, who will preside over the opening session. Following the elections, the members will be notified within a span of 14 days, and the 60 seats earmarked for women and 10 seats reserved for minorities will be awarded subsequently.

ECP Refutes Allegations Of Poll Rigging

Legal requirements state that the newly elected members must be notified within 14 days of the election. Three days will be given to independent candidates to join with a party. Article 91 of the Constitution states that the National Assembly must meet no later than 21 days after the elections.

It’s interesting to note that next month will also mark the end of the five-year terms for half of the Senate’s members. Elections will be held to fill the roughly 50 open seats and to choose the Senate’s chair and deputy chair.
