Bail granted to Imran Khan Shah Mehmood in 12 cases of May 9

The anti-terrorism court of Rawalpindi granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood in 12 cases related to the May 9 incidents. According to voteteer.com.pk, Judge Malik Ijaz Asif of the Special Anti-Terrorism Court pronounced the bail decision, PTI lawyer Shiraz Ahmed Ranjha appeared in the court. The prosecution’s plea for respite was rejected. The court granted bail to PTI founder Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi in all 12 cases.

Cases are registered against Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi in different police stations of Rawalpindi.

It should be remembered that after the arrest of Imran Khan from the premises of Islamabad High Court in the Al-Qadir Trust case on May 9 last year, there was a nationwide protest by the PTI, during which Muslims were killed on May 9 in the Model Town area of Lahore. Apart from the burning of the League (N) office, military, civil and private installations were torched, public and private properties were severely damaged while at least 8 people were killed and 290 injured.

Protesters also stormed the Corps Commander’s residence in Lahore, also known as Jinnah House, and broke a gate of the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

Subsequently, 1,900 people involved in fighting, vandalism and arson were arrested across the country, while cases were also registered against Imran Khan and his party leaders and workers.
